 STATEMENT OF INTENT

For my documentary billboard poster, I will ensure that it complies to regulations set out by the ASA- no explicit images, graphic content or that which would cause distress or fear in any audiences. I will take care that my billboard poster has nothing that could indirectly condone violence, anti-social behaviour or harassment towards any groups. Due to my poster being displayed in a city, an area that is incredibly diverse, audiences outside of my target audience will see it, and although the documentary is focused on the paranormal- I will ensure that none of the imagery is too disturbing. Although I don’t intent on the documentary's horror content being overly graphic, it will likely still be broadcasted after watershed as some of the topics presented may be inappropriate for younger audiences.

As the target audience is 16-25 year olds who are already fans of documentaries, I will take care that the audience is represented positively across the posters through the characters depicted on them. I will include both a character from the age group and a character from a different age group in order to show that the interest in the paranormal is universal. I will also be careful with the depiction of the paranormal in order to avoid promoting offensive or stereotypical content which could damage the audience’s perception of these topics or groups that believe in them. Since it’s intended to appear more light-hearted, I will ensure that the toned-down representations are not offensive in any way. Audiences will be encouraged to engage with the documentary and form their own opinions on the paranormal, but I will take care that everything is presented neutrally or positively on the posters in order to explore the topics more deeply in the documentary and draw in an audience to watch it.

Compared to most other documentaries, the show appeals to a somewhat younger audience and that will be reflected in the imagery and topics presented. It will appeal to the fans of groundbreaking documentaries by presenting an educational yet entertaining view of the paranormal.  Ghosts are not a niche topic in the media, but I still want to ensure that I draw in a new audience that could get engaged with a completely different representation of them.
